In the following list I will cover the main modelling tools available and what they are usually used for:
1.Fondant icing tools tutorial – step number 1: Bone Modelling Tool – with large round and small round tip
This tool is used to shape and soften flower petals if you are making fondant flowers. If you are sculpting figures (people or animals) it is used to make indentation on the face and making face features.
2.Fondant icing tools tutorial – step number 2: Veining Tool – with large pointy tip and small pointy tip
This tool adds detail to fondant leaves and flowers. It acts like a pen to add texture into the surface of the decorations. In figure sculpting it is used to shape the eyes and the mouth.
3.Ball Tool – with large tip and small tip
Basically this tool is almost like the bone tool and used for cupping and smoothing fondant petal without tearing and to thin the edges of gum paste leaves and petals. In figure sculpting it is used to make indentations to enhance the facial features.
4.Scallop and comb tool- shell like tip
This tool is used to make serrated edges and used for hair like pattern in figure sculpting.
5. Dresden tool- oval rounded tip
Is used in flower petals shaping and helps in making facial features on people figures and animal figures.
6. Rounded knife tool
As it sounds it is a knife to cut excess fondant. In people sculpting we use it to help us shape the mouth and the eyes.
